10 years ago you could have counted the number of call centres in the Philippines on one hand. Today, this looks a little bit different. Latest stats show that the number of call centres in the Philippines has surpassed 800 and is expected to reach more than 1000 within the next two years. For people that know the Philippines and its offshore outsourcing environment this does not come as a surprise. The call centre industry’s exponential growth in the Philippines is the logical consequence of low labor cost, an excellent English language proficiency level, an outstanding telecommunication and IT infrastructure as well as a generally extremely hospitable environment. Over the last 10 years the Philippines has emerged as the world’s preferred offshore outsourcing destination for call centre services. Out of the 800 call centres that are currently operating in the Philippines more than half are foreign-owned and/or managed. Call centres in the Philippines are servicing companies and their customers in 4 continents and more than 18 countries. Investments of the world’s largest CRM providers in the Philippines for the build out of new call centre facilities have been significantly higher than in other countries such as India. Another key indicated for the Philippine call centre industry’s superiority over India is the large number of Indian providers that have set up office in the country. Today, almost all major Indian BPO providers maintain an offshore operation in the Philippines. In contrast, only less than a hand full providers from the Philippines have set up office in India.
